Cheddar Valley Youth HC Committee and Coaches wish all our players, their families and all our supporters a very Happy New Year.
Our first training session of the new year is Friday 10th January 2020.
The club has had a busy first half of the season. Despite some wet Friday weather, our training sessions have been very well attended and all coaches are pleased with the improvement in skills and match-play of our players. One effect of the wet weather was the appearance of many earthworms on the astro – it was great to see our youngest players carefully moving these to safety and a group of parents rescuing the frog stuck tight in the fence as well as the pigeon stuck in the football goal!
Our Hockey Heroes course, an introduction to hockey for very young players proved successful and we will be running a second set of sessions.
Across the age groups we have taken part in a large number of fixtures, with all our teams showing great sportsmanship, skills and team-play with some brilliant results, lots of wins, draws and close losses. Some of the outstanding team performances include our Under 10 mixed team winning all their matches at the Somerset Clubs’ Tournament hosted by Cheddar Valley, our two Under 12 mixed teams each winning/drawing all but one of their matches at the Bruton tournament and our three Under 13/14 teams winning lots of matches at their home tournament. Our Under 8 and Under 9 teams have also been putting into practise all the hockey tactics they have developed at training, defending very well as a unitand scoring lots of goals at tournaments. One of theirmost notable appearances was the Bath Buccs tournament where they came away undefeated.
In August 2019, Cheddar Valley Youth HC was awarded ClubMark status. This award from England Hockey and Sport England is an accreditation scheme validating clubs that show high standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management and are recognised as safe, rewarding and fulfilling places for players. This award reflects the time and effort(behind the scenes, at training and tournaments), our hardworking Committee, Coaches, parental and junior helpers put into making Cheddar Valley such asuccessful hockey club.
Club kit is still available to be ordered at training sessions. We have a small stock of most sizes with samples available for trying on which we recommend particularly before purchasing a named hoodie.
This season we have offered players the opportunity of attending several extra training sessions on selected Sundays when we do not have a club fixture. We are planning to continue this – details will be put on our facebook page, website and players will also be informed at training.
Please note that in the event of severe weather, we will initially put details of training cancellation on our Cheddar Valley HC facebook page and club website.
Please continue to visit our club website regularly for updates on club activity http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/
Finally, a very big thank you to all our Cheddar Valley parents/carers for your much appreciatedsupport both at training and fixtures. The picturebelow taken on a cold damp November morning at the Bruton Under 12 tournament typifies the amazing support we have received at all fixtures/training this season.
We look forward to seeing you all soon.
