History
Cheddar Valley Youth Hockey Club was founded in 2002. At that time, Fairlands Middle School produced some very strong hockey teams, a tradition it still continues today. A group of enthusiastic Fairlands’ parents set up the club and one of their main aims was to encourage players to join from the wider community, not just from the Cheddar area. At the start, Cheddar Valley had only one coach, the inspirational Ann Lydon from Fairlands School, aided by parent helpers. During these early years, training was on the school playground and the grit pitch at Churchill School. The club proved to be very popular, membership grew and included players from outside the immediate area. In 2004, the club eventually moved to the astro pitch at the Blue School, Wells.
In August 2018, the astro at the Kings of Wessex Academy was completed and the club returned to village to hold training and home fixtures. During this first season at Kings (2018-19) training sessions were also held at the Blue School Wells astro. Due to the mnay advantages of training at one venue and thge success of the club's first year at Kings, the Cheddar Valley committee decided to transfer all future activity to the Kimgs Cheddar venue.
