Futures Cup
What happens?
Players are selected from one of four squads depending on the Performance Centre they attended.
Players attend a training day with their squads to prepare for the tournament. The Futures Cup which follows runs over four days and sees the six squads battle it out to be crowned winners. The National Age Group Coaches attend this tournament to select for the England U16 and U18 squads.
How do I get involved?
- Players are selected for Futures Cup from their Performance Centres
- Players aged 14-17 are selected
- Players who consistently show that they are the best performing and highest potential players in their age group and Performance Centre are selected to play in the Futures Cup
If you are not selected for the Futures Cup, don’t worry, you should continue to develop your hockey through school, club and Player Pathway activity. You may be selected for the Futures Cup up to the age of 17.
What are the entry and exit points?
The Futures Cup squads are selected in July with the tournament running in August. Following the tournament players will return to Performance Centre training unless they are no longer eligible (aged 18).
If you are no longer eligible to return to a Performance Centre, you should continue to develop your hockey through club, college or university activity. For more information please see here.
Who is it run by?
The Futures Cup is run by England Hockey and each squad is looked after by a dedicated Team Manager, and two coaches.
