Cheddar Valley Hockey Club News Articles http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk Cheddar Valley Hockey Club News Articles January 2020 Newsletter
Cheddar Valley Youth HC Committee and Coaches wish all our players, their families and all our supporters a very Happy New Year.

Our first training session of the new year is Friday 10th January 2020.

The club has had a busy first half of the season. Despite some wet Friday weather, our training sessions have been very well attended and all coaches are pleased with the improvement in skills and match-play of our players. One effect of the wet weather was the appearance of many earthworms on the astro – it was great to see our youngest players carefully moving these to safety and a group of parents rescuing the frog stuck tight in the fence as well as the pigeon stuck in the football goal!

Our Hockey Heroes course, an introduction to hockey for very young players proved successful and we will be running a second set of sessions.

Across the age groups we have taken part in a large number of fixtures, with all our teams showing great sportsmanship, skills and team-play with some brilliant results, lots of wins, draws and close losses. Some of the outstanding team performances include our Under 10 mixed team winning all their matches at the Somerset Clubs’ Tournament hosted by Cheddar Valley, our two Under 12 mixed teams each winning/drawing all but one of their matches at the Bruton tournament and our three Under 13/14 teams winning lots of matches at their home tournament. Our Under 8 and Under 9 teams have also been putting into practise all the hockey tactics they have developed at training, defending very well as a unitand scoring lots of goals at tournaments. One of theirmost notable appearances was the Bath Buccs tournament where they came away undefeated.

In August 2019, Cheddar Valley Youth HC was awarded ClubMark status. This award from England Hockey and Sport England is an accreditation scheme validating clubs that show high standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management and are recognised as safe, rewarding and fulfilling places for players. This award reflects the time and effort(behind the scenes, at training and tournaments), our hardworking Committee, Coaches, parental and junior helpers put into making Cheddar Valley such asuccessful hockey club.

Club kit is still available to be ordered at training sessions. We have a small stock of most sizes with samples available for trying on which we recommend particularly before purchasing a named hoodie.

This season we have offered players the opportunity of attending several extra training sessions on selected Sundays when we do not have a club fixture. We are planning to continue this – details will be put on our facebook page, website and players will also be informed at training.

Please note that in the event of severe weather, we will initially put details of training cancellation on our Cheddar Valley HC facebook page and club website.

Please continue to visit our club website regularly for updates on club activity http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/

Finally, a very big thank you to all our Cheddar Valley parents/carers for your much appreciatedsupport both at training and fixtures. The picturebelow taken on a cold damp November morning at the Bruton Under 12 tournament typifies the amazing support we have received at all fixtures/training this season.

We look forward to seeing you all soon.

CVHC Webmaster Sun, 05 Jan 2020 19:19:59 +0000 http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/january_2020_newsletter http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/january_2020_newsletter Fixture & Tournament Info
CVYHC aims to offer all players the opportunity of taking part in some tournaments/matches with other hockey clubs. For some fixtures, all players in the relevant age group are invited but for others there is some selection of players so that all players come away from competition feeling positive about their performance.

For all future tournaments/matches, we will be sending out a group email – please reply promptly to let us know if you child can/cannot play. Thank you.

Some of our fixtures are organised centrally by Somerset Hockey and usually involve a large number of clubs throughout the county. For these tournaments, there is a deadline for team entries of two weeks before each fixture – because of this it is important that parents reply promptly concerning availability of players. If we do not have enough replies, we can only enter one team, unfortunately disappointing players who have replied too late. The standard of play at the Somerset tournaments is very high.

We also organise and play tournaments and matches with a smaller group of clubs and these often involve several age groups playing on the same day. Again, with these fixtures we also require a prompt reply by the given date so that we know how many teams we are entering and we can inform the host club responsible for scheduling the event. If we are the host club, we have to send out a tournament match schedule to travelling teams before the event.

Please check our cvyhc facebook page regularly for club updates including the dates of any extra training sessions. Many of our future fixtures are now on our club website cvyhc@outlook.com. You can also contact us directly using this site if you have any queries.

Our coaches and Kim, our membership secretary are always available at training for any queries you have.

Please note that we will not be training during the Friday of half term (1st November) or Wells Carnival night (15th November).
CVHC Webmaster Fri, 04 Oct 2019 00:29:02 +0100 http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/fixture__tournament_info http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/fixture__tournament_info Welcome back to Cheddar Valley Training
New school year 6 and below - attend 17:00-18:00 session

New school year 7 and above - attend 18:00-19:00 session

We are planning to run a 19:00-20:00 session in subsequent weeks, which some of our older players will be asked to attend,
CVHC Webmaster Sat, 31 Aug 2019 00:14:51 +0100 http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/welcome_back_to_cheddar_valley_training http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/welcome_back_to_cheddar_valley_training March 2019 Newsletter
Please click the document below to read the newletter.

March 2019 Newsletter
CVHC Webmaster Thu, 04 Apr 2019 00:06:43 +0100 http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/march_2019_newsletter http://cvyhc.clubbuzz.co.uk/news/march_2019_newsletter CVHC Players at Somerset Development Centre
Well done to all our players who were nominated and attended the training sessions at Millfield.
